Impact Assesment of Roots & Colors
The introduction of bilingual, culturally grounded coloring books like Roots and Colours to rural communities across Tamil Nadu offers significant potential for long-term benefits in education quality, emotional development, cultural inclusion, environmental sustainability, economic opportunity, and policy alignment. Drawing from peer-reviewed studies, education surveys, and sustainability data, this impact overview explores the potential outcomes of distributing 20,000 Roots and Colours books to schoolchildren and families across 8–10 districts in Tamil Nadu, especially in low-resource or farming-based communities.
Educational Impact
With 20,000 Roots and Colours books shared across Tamil Nadu, the project brings to life the ideas behind the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, especially its focus on local languages and creative learning. By working closely with government school teachers and panchayat education officers, the project can earn trust and even set an example for other villages. If early results are strong, it may be featured in school reports or local education success stories.

Social Impact
These 20,000 books will likely reach over 80,000 family members, since kids often share learning tools with parents and siblings. The drawings, like Pongal scenes, rice fields, or temple towers, help kids feel proud of their culture and open up conversations at home. In families facing hardship, grief, or caste challenges, art can give children a safe way to express emotions and feel seen.

Environmental Impact
We plan to print all books on recycled paper, which uses 60% less energy and 45% less water than regular paper. This not only reduces waste but also teaches children the value of sustainability in everyday life, showing that educational tools can care for the planet too.

Economic Impact
Printing 20,000 books through local cooperatives means creating over 100 short-term jobs in areas like design, printing, and delivery—many of which can go to youth or women in the village. Since each book costs only ₹18–22, it’s much more affordable than things like tablets or e-learning kits. That makes it easier for schools, NGOs, or donors to support the project in future rounds.

Policy Alignment
Roots and Colours aligns closely with India’s National Education Policy 2020, which emphasizes learning in the home language and introducing art into early education. The books reflect this vision and can help schools meet learning goals in a way that feels local, inclusive, and easy to adopt across regions.
